Mustafa Engin and Kathleen Shanahan Join Board of Trustees

Safe + Sound Somerset (Safe+) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mustafa Engin, Regional Change and Improvement Manager with a major online retailer and Kathleen Shanahan, Senior Marketing Manager with Verizon to our Board of Trustees.

“Our Board of Trustees is comprised of a dedicated team committed to serving survivors and engaging the community in our mission to end domestic, dating and sexual in our community,” said Michele E. Boronkas, President and CEO or Safe+Sound Somerset. “We are excited to bring Mustafa and Kathleen’s extensive expertise and energy to advancing our mission.”

Mustafa Engin, Regional Change and Improvement Manager with a major online retailer, excels in program and people leadership with positive impacts to the community. Motivated by opportunities to enhance client experience, organizational performance, and operational excellence by facilitating stakeholder alignment toward a unified vision, he seeks to apply these skills as a trustee.

Domestic violence left a life-long mark on Mustafa through family experiences, along with those of countless others among his friends and loved ones. The acute way in which the recent pandemic both highlighted and exacerbated this crisis compelled him to act, completing our 60-hour domestic and sexual violence training to become a volunteer advocate. First as a volunteer and then an interim staff member, his experiences have been rewarding for their positive impact on survivors and their families. Mustafa shared, “While I look forward to continuing as a volunteer, I’m humbled and honored to serve on the Board for the expanded impact I hope to bring to Safe+Sound Somerset.”

Kathleen Shanahan, Senior Marketing Manager with Verizon, brings her passion about changing the perception of domestic and sexual abuse and ending the stigma of abuse to her tenure as a trustee for Safe+Sound Somerset. Offering her experience in advertising, marketing, and project management, her goal is making Safe & Sound Somerset a household name within our community – increasing awareness that brings survivors in need of safety, hope and healing for services, and supporters offering resources to ensure the availability of these services.

According to Kathleen, “As an extremely focused and determined woman, my energy, drive, and compassion never ends. I will use all of this to help Safe + Sound achieve its goals.”
