2024-2026 Officers of the Board of Trustees

Somerville, NJ (February 8, 2024)Safe+Sound Somerset (Safe+) is pleased to announce the 2024-2026 officers of the Board of Trustees as follows: Sheila Breeding, Chairperson; Lisa Barclay, Vice Chairperson; and Amy Karson, Treasurer.

Their leadership, skills, and commitment to serving survivors and engaging the community in our mission to end domestic, dating, and sexual in our community will be critical to our continued success,” said Michele E. Boronkas, President and CEO or Safe+Sound Somerset. “I am looking forward to working with each of them, and all the trustees, to further our mission.”

Sheila Breeding, retired from Allstate New Jersey Insurance Company, believes that we all deserve lives free from violence, especially in our homes. As the chair of the Board of Trustees, Sheila is focused on coordinating our board members’ significant talents and skills to promote Safe + Sound Somerset’s mission. We are in the initial phase of planning a new campus and will be seeking partnerships with the county’s residents to help us meet the growing needs of our community. She wants everyone in our community to know about Safe+’s amazing, comprehensive services and the value of our work, and join us in advocating for survivors. Singing is Sheila’s hobby. She takes voice lessons and sings in two choirs. She is a member of The Presbyterian Church at Bound Brook and has an interest in progressive approaches to meeting the spiritual needs of the community.

 Lisa Barclay, MBA, Financial Professional at Prudential Financial, has always had a passion for sharing information and helping people achieve their financial goals. Utilizing her extensive skills and financial background to help survivors, Lisa initially became involved with the organization as a volunteer advocate in our Financial Empowerment Center. Family is a top priority for Lisa, with her son at the top of the list. When she’s not working, Lisa likes things that make life enjoyable such as cooking delicious food, good wine, travel, good books, a good workout and giving back. She also volunteers with First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens Scholarship Ministry and Jersey Cares.

Amy Karson, CEO at Brand K Partners, is dedicated to improving and empowering the nonprofit sector through accounting services and financial tools. She is passionate about helping nonprofit organizations make strategic decisions based on fiscal information. In her free time, Amy enjoys going to museums in NYC, playing tennis and walking dogs at our local animal shelter. She also loves spending time with her 3 boys and playing with their rescue dog, Frank.
