Hello,

My name is [Your Name], and I am a constituent of [Your District] and an advocate with Safe + Sound Somerset, the only organization in Somerset County providing comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child sexual abuse.

I’m calling today to respectfully urge [Senator, Assemblyman/Assemblywoman’s name] to co-sponsor resolution [either #709 if they’re Assembly or #1040 if their Senate], the request for a $7 million legislative add-on to the Governor’s proposed FY26 State Budget for domestic violence services. This funding directly supports our organization’s ability to serve survivors in all of Somerset.

Safe + Sound Somerset serves survivors of domestic and sexual violence through our 24/7 helpline, emergency shelter, counseling, and legal advocacy. In 2024, we answered 4,299 calls, sheltered 101 survivors, and provided case management and education to 513 survivors. One of these survivors was Milly, who survived a dangerous strangulation by her partner. Our advocates were able to provide her emotional support and safety planning at the hospital, a safe place to stay, and continued legal and emotional support throughout court proceedings.

Drastic cuts in federal funds have already begun to dramatically erode our ability to maintain services to survivors. We are anticipating $1.2 million in cuts from “known” looming federal reductions, representing about 1/3 of our annual budget. We need to have the additional funding in the FY26 state budget to continue to provide these services to people like Milly.

To truly meet the needs of survivors and communities across New Jersey, I strongly urge Senator/Assemblyman/Assemblywoman [Legislator’s Name] to sign on as a co-sponsor of resolution [insert resolution number here] to restore the discretionary funding in NJCEDV’s FY26 budget.

Can we count on your support?

Thank you so much for your consideration and support.
