My Nine Years as a Safe+Sound Somerset Trustee

My name is Susan Spagnola and I have served as a Trustee at Safe+Sound Somerset for the last nine years. I am honored to share some background on that involvement as we enter our year-end fundraising season and #NewBeginnings campaign.

One of my first experiences with the organization was attending the Candlelight Vigil during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which takes place in October. I was blown away and moved to see the women, men and children who came together to stand in silent tribute to the victims – also women, men, and children – who lost their lives to domestic violence in Somerset County.

As a law student, I had worked for legal aid to help survivors to secure restraining orders. The vigil reignited by passion for helping those who were being bullied and controlled in their homes. I knew then that I had to get involved in a more meaningful way – that this was where I wanted to make a difference. Continuing my family’s tradition of giving back, I wanted to use my skills to help Safe+Sound Somerset fulfill its mission. I know that my gifts are invested in cutting edge programs and initiatives that truly make a difference in our community.

Best regards,

Sue
