For over 45 years, Safe+Sound Somerset has provided a path to safety, hope, and healing for survivors of domestic violence. In 2021, we expanded our trauma-informed services to include survivors of sexual violence, offering the same high-quality support to adults and children.
Understanding Sexual Violence
Sexual violence includes any unwanted sexual behavior done without consent. It can target someone’s gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation and includes:
- Sexual assault
- Rape
- Sexual harassment
- Stalking
- Groping
- Indecent exposure
- Unwanted exposure to sexual content
Sexual violence is about power and control, not sex, attraction, love, or jealousy. It is never the survivor’s fault.
Our Services
Safe+Sound Somerset helps survivors reclaim their power on their journey to healing. Our services are confidential and free. We welcome survivors of all genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities, cultures, religions, and immigration statuses.
24/7 Call and Text Helpline
Our helpline is the entry point for support, information, safety planning, and additional services. Trained advocates are ready to meet survivors wherever they are on their journey and help identify the next steps.
Counseling Services
We offer individual and group counseling for adult and child survivors, as well as their family members and friends. Our counselors are trained in evidence-based, trauma-responsive therapies. In 2024, we expanded our programs to serve children under 13 impacted by child sexual abuse, offering:
- Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT): Family-centered treatment to build coping skills and strengthen family bonds.
- TF-CBT for Problematic Sexual Behaviors: For youth ages 3-11 who display problematic sexual behaviors.
- Art Therapy: Uses creativity to promote safety and healing.
Response Teams
- Sexual Assault Response Team (SART)
- Nonfatal Strangulation and Smothering Response Team (NFSSRT)
These multidisciplinary teams provide coordinated responses to survivors’ needs during crises. Members include Confidential Sexual Violence Advocates (CSVAs), law enforcement, and forensic nurse examiners. Survivors can choose to engage with any, all, or none of the team members.
Legal Advocacy
Survivors can work with Legal Advocates for support and information about obtaining protective orders and connecting to other resources.
Financial Empowerment and Housing Programs
Our Financial Empowerment Center and Housing First service help survivors identify and achieve their financial and housing goals.
