Sexual Violence Awareness Month is coming up in April. We hope that you will join Safe+Sound Somerset to wear jeans for a purse, support survivors, and educate our community about this important issue.

How To Get Involved:

  • Participate in Denim Day! We are asking our partners to wear jeans with a purpose on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, to stand against forms of oppressive violence against our community.

What is Denim Day?

The story begins in Italy 1992, when an 18-year old girl was raped by the 45-year old driving instructor who was taking her to her very first driving lesson. He took her to an isolated road, pulled her out of the car, removed her jeans and forcefully raped her. You can read the full story here.

To Participate:

  1. Ask your employees or members to come to work wearing jeans on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, to stand against forms of oppressive violence against our community.
  2. Gather everyone together to take a picture and send the image our way to post on our social media. Post pictures on your organization’s social media with the hashtags #DenimDay & #Safe+SoundSomerset
  • Run a Gift Card Drive. We provide gift cards to help survivors buy other things they need for themselves and their children. Almost all survivors we serve have experienced financial control and abuse. Gift cards are an important first step on the road to financial freedom. Our experience shows Shop-Rite, Walmart, Target, and Amazon gift cards are the most effective in helping purchase needed supplies. Gift cards provide survivors with the autonomy to purchase the items that their family needs and prefers – sometimes for the first time ever.
  • Schedule a Prevention & Education Program. Safe+Sound Somerset can provide in-person or virtual programs related to prevention of and our services for Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Teen Dating Violence, and much more.

If your company or group plans to participate in any of the ways above, please reach out to Drew Brennan, Manager of Volunteer Services at [email protected]. Drew will connect you to the appropriate staff and provide any resources you need to support your efforts.

We will also recognize our Denim Day partners for their support. Please send your logo and the hyperlink to which it should connect to Drew. We will add to our Denim Day webpage and recognize your business/group on social media throughout April.

Thank you for your support! With the partnership of our community, our work helping survivors of domestic and sexual violence and providing outreach and prevention programs is possible
